The start of a school year is always exciting, and this year is no exception! We have a number of new faces in the building this year, and a number of familiar faces in new positions as well. Here is a rundown:
Joy Jones replaces Rebecca Sparrow, who has taken her talents to the High School as a Guidance Counselor.
We bid farewell to Joe Caruso, as he heads to the High School in the Credit Recovery role. Billie Johnson will take his place in the ISR/Student Advocate role.
Jamie Bye is new in the 7th grade Social Studies role, replacing Pat Parsons.
Tony Petrasko brings his talents back to Bolich again this year, subbing for Dani McIntyre, who is spending some quality time with a new baby!
Steven Kramer (a Cuyahoga Falls Alumni) joins us in 7th Grade Science, replacing Wendy Carroll.
Pat Canterbury joins us as a year long substitute for Kristin Guyette.
Care Walter joins the team as our Assistant Principal. Serving 16 years as an intervention specialist, she has already proven to be an outstanding leader.
Laura Kirchner joins us as an ISGI. We still have one ISGI position to fill. We anticipate going with a long-term substitute, and hiring the position in December or early January.
Jennifer Polling is our full-time LPN.
Ryan Mock will be working with us and Kathy Soudry as a Psychology Intern this year.
Staff Shoutouts
This week, two people have simply stolen the show in regards to getting things ready for the coming year. While every person the past few weeks has been working hard, Debra Caine and Linda Ferreira have gone above and beyond the call of duty in making the master schedule happen. They came in early, stayed late, worked from home, emailed, called, texted, and did whatever it took to make sure our schedule was put together and kids were in the right place for the start of the year. I know I speak for both Care and myself when I say we could not have done it without them.
Jump Start
Thank you, everyone, for helping make JumpStart great success again this year. I know you volunteer for this event each year, and your presence shows your commitments to helping students feel comfortable and prepared on day one!

Master Schedule
The Master Schedule continues to be tweaked to meet the needs of our students. We are making some small changes in an attempt to lower class sizes, especially in the 8th grade 1st block. Stay tuned. As soon as I have a "final" version of the schedule, I will send it out. The changes are small, and we are not making major overhauls.
Schedule for Monday and Tuesday Next Week
- Monday - All day at the High School. See the email from Melvin for more information
- Tuesday - All building staff meeting at 8:00 AM. Care and I will provide Breakfast for all staff! We will keep the meeting as short as possible so you can get back into your classrooms for the remainder of the day.
- Wednesday - Early release day. Follow PBIS schedule given to you in the opening staff meeting.
- Thursday - Normal bell schedule, continue working through PBIS process
- Friday - Normal bell schedule, all school assembly during AEI @ 2:20 pm. We will dismiss directly from the assembly by grade level.

Video(s) Watching
I've always loved this video highlighting the power of the words we use, and the way we say them. When we work with children, we often face the same challenges. Sometimes it feels as if we are leading the blind, even with the most highly achieving students. As we work with adolescent students, we must meet them where they are, We must help them by changing the words we use (or the instructional strategies). The extra exciting challenge is that often, our students each see things differently, through the lens of their own life experiences. Our job then is to change how we "write the words" to their educational journey.
